The goal of Modern Dentistry is to prevent tooth loss.
When a tooth cannot be saved, extraction (removal) of the tooth may be the only course of treatment. Most minor surgeries are performed in our practice; however, the Dentist may choose to refer to a Maxillofacial Surgeon for more complicated cases. Panorex X-ray
A Panorex X-ray allows us to see a complete picture of the alignment of your jaw, the positioning of your teeth and if there is sufficient space for your third molars (wisdom teeth) to fully erupt. In addition, it is an excellent diagnostic tool for evaluating the supporting bone for possible cysts or tumors.
Wisdom Teeth Removal
Wisdom teeth may need to be extracted if they affect other teeth – often referred to as “coming in sideways” or “impacted wisdom teeth”. This failure to erupt properly may occur either because there is not enough room in the jaw for the tooth, or because of its abnormal position. Some of the problems associated with impacted wisdom teeth include: bacteria and plaque build-up, cysts development, tumor development, infection and jaw and gum disease. Many oral health specialists will recommend the removal of wisdom teeth, as early extraction will help to eliminate problems.
